Dr Ehab Sayed

Dr Ehab Sayed, Founder and Chief Evolution Officer at Biohm, is a regenerative design engineer, strategic biomimic, built environment innovator and public speaker that strives to realise a biomimetic (nature-inspired) future that harmonises and realigns cultural and natural systems. He founded Biohm to develop nature-inspired biotechnologies aimed at decarbonising industries through scaling ground-breaking regenerative products and systems. Leading solid teams of passionate and talented designers, engineers, scientists, and business innovators from around the globe, he is working towards revolutionising economies to secure the future of humanity without impeding other species' evolutionary pathways - a march toward biosynergy.

At Biohm, Ehab drives the creation, development, and implementation of Biohm's vision, strategy, aims and objectives and manages the commercial, innovation, and operations functions.

Ehab’s enlightened and expansive perspective on anthropocentric value chains and belief systems derive directly from his formative years in the crux of multiple opposing worldviews. As an Egyptian, growing up in Qatar, Ehab was immersed in Muslim and traditional Arabic culture, being raised by strong and resilient female role models in a masculine society. Attending British schools in Qatar, he shifted between Western and Eastern ideologies, navigating these tensions and conflicts with a curious mind and observing the powers, forces, and impacts of societal norms, memes, and geopolitical ideologies which have endowed him with a capacity to navigate the complexity of implementing any kind of change in the world.

Before studying in the UK, he spent two years travelling and living among the communities who have been most heavily impacted by our global economy, becoming acclimatised to the omnipresence of plastic and toxic pollution across rivers, mountains, islands, and reefs. Immersing himself in nature, he keenly observed its genius and brought these observations to his academic studies, where he dedicated all of his projects to addressing our impact on the world by taking inspiration from nature, with its billions of years of evolution, refinement, and optimisation. His work is a lifelong process of emulating nature’s methods for building highly efficient, elegant, and effective organisms and ecosystems in order to use the principles and processes to solve the most pressing challenges we face in our world today.

This emerging practice led to Ehab developing numerous award-winning technologies which he took into his MSc at Brunel University. Here, he investigated the construction industry’s waste streams and as a result developed Triagomy, an interlocking construction system inspired by the way carbon molecules bind to one another to create circular buildings that can be deconstructed and reconstructed at any stage of their life. With Triagomy, Ehab became attuned to the wider consequences of producing construction materials, specifically their contribution to the plastic crisis, extraordinary use of energy, dispersal of toxins and harmful chemicals, and crucially, an industry-scale lack of end-of-life solutions.

His systems change philosophy and biomimetic design rooting, the driving force behind Biohm, took hold at the intersection between rigorous academic research and industry-focused development. His PhD, ‘Biomimetic Intelligence for Systemic Innovation in the Built Environment’ at Northumbria University was synchronous with Biohm’s growth and was emboldened by the exceptional team of designers, engineers, and scientists Ehab works with to build a regenerative future.

If Ehab could be non-human system, he would choose to be a conscious galaxy, a vast collection of stars, planetary systems, interstellar clouds, dark matter, and cosmic dust, existing for billions of years, witnessing all that takes place in this vast system including the emergence of life on worlds, and the grand tapestry of evolution. As a galaxy he would embody the essence of cosmic wonder, eternal evolution, and the beauty of a system in tune with the cycles of nature and the cosmos.
